Hello, I’m happy you are here! I am a writer, an ecologist, and a lover of mountains, rivers, and the misty landscape of the Pacific Northwest.
I am finalizing an experimental memoir entitled, An Unremarkable Woman: A Life in Five Acts. In this story, I explore the ways in which a patriarchal society transforms the trajectory of a woman’s life, the moments that prune pathways and deform/truncate potential; the events that strip complexity from our beings. Our protagonist, Sam, is a woman malnourished attempting to become satiated, a woman simplified attempting to become multitudinous. Ultimately, this is a story of a woman’s desire to wrest control of her narrative and to redefine womanhood on her own terms.
The structure of An Unremarkable Woman reflects this splintered/fractured state of a woman’s life. The narrative composed of fragments, is a collage of moments past and present. Like a photographic album, these moments compiled, create a picture of the whole, the cumulative cuts shaping/confining/deforming womanhood.
In this Substack, I welcome your stories of womanhood as well as your reactions to excerpts from my memoir and other selections.
I look forward to hearing from you!
